Jaime A. Heidel was born with a pen in her hand a story to tell. An only child, Jaime was a solitary and serious little girl who preferred reading and quiet play to the boisterous activities of other children.
At the age of seven she wrote her first short story and recalls her father taking her aside to reprimand her for plagiarizing.
“It was the best compliment I could have received, though I didn’t think so at the time.” Jaime says.
After all, if she were being scolded for supposedly copying the work of another author, it must have been a good story!
Jaime continued to write short stories into her mid-teens, focusing on the horror/thriller genre. When she shared the work with her family and friends, they encouraged her to take writing classes.
Branching out into poetry at sixteen, Jaime found another, less restrictive outlet for her creative muse, which later led to songwriting in her early twenties.
In 2002, Jaime began penning the lyrics to her first album, Mythillogical and released the CD under the name Ethereal in 2005.
Jaime has had her poetry published in the anthology, Voices from the Crater and in the Tori Amos fan magazine, Little Blue World under her given name.
Her most recent and noted success in publishing has been the inclusion of her short story, “Room for Rent” in the new GLBT anthology, Queer Shorts. This story was published under ‘Ethereal’ to increase cross marketing between her writing and her music.
Returning to her roots as a lover of the horror/thriller genre, Jaime has spent the last six months working on her debut novel, The Echo.
“I have well over two-hundred ideas for short stories, novels and screenplays,” Jaime says. “It’s more than I can write in two lifetimes.”
Now that she has come full circle with her writing, Jaime is actively pursuing a career as a professional novelist.
Jaime has always lived in a world of her own creation and finally, after all these years, we get to share in it.
